Body-contouring surgeries such as liposuction are often thought of and advertised as procedures for women.
But liposuction offers many benefits for male patients as well, and it is becoming an increasingly popular way for men to treat problematic fat deposits that are unresponsive to diet and exercise. Board-certified Connecticut plastic surgeon Dr. Stanley Foster welcomes male patients considering liposuction to schedule a consultation and learn about the advantages of liposuction.
In men, liposuction can be used to effectively remove fat cells from areas including:
Dr. Foster treats gynecomastia patients with SmartLipo. If difficult glandular tissure is found, ultrasonic liposuction is used at the same time.

The actual amount of fat that can be removed during liposuction varies by patient and will be discussed during your consultation with board-certified Connecticut plastic surgeon Dr. Stanley Foster.
The removal of fat cells from the abdominal area, including love handles, is one of the most popular uses for liposuction. Fatty deposits around your stomach can be difficult to shed even through positive changes in diet and exercise.
However, it’s important to remember that liposuction is a body-contouring procedure designed to treat problem areas of fat; it is not intended as a weight-loss method. The risk of complications increases when liposuction is performed on patients who are significantly overweight.
Guidelines established by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) recommend that no more than 5 liters of fat be removed in a single liposuction session. This is the equivalent of about 11 pounds.
Dr. Foster will tailor your individual liposuction procedure to your specific needs and will take into account factors such as your body type, weight, height and general health.

A common concern for women who undergo breast augmentation is how their new breast implants will impact their ability to exercise. For most women, there is no difference in their ability to exercise after breast augmentation. However, there are some activities which may be impacted by your procedure.
Runners may experience a difference in the balance and weight of their body after breast augmentation. By wearing a supportive bra, you should be able to minimize the difference your breast implants make in your performance. Most women find that speed and stamina are not significantly impacted.
Swimmers may find that it takes awhile to adjust to the changes in buoyancy and resistance caused by their breast implants. If you are a competitive swimmer, you may also find that your speed is slightly impacted. However, if you are just a recreational swimmer, this should not be much of a concern.
Breast augmentation can potentially affect tennis players as well. Some women find that their breast implants impact their backhand stroke. However, for most women, this is not a problem.
If you lead an active lifestyle, you should discuss your athletic endeavors with Hartford plastic surgeon Dr. Stanley Foster at your initial consultation. He can give you a better idea as to how your breast augmentation will impact your ability to engage in your desired activities after the procedure.
